Traffic is the data received and transmitted by a dedicated server. The amount of traffic is measured in bytes. Since contractual agreements are usually signed in months or years, the amount of traffic is also specified per month for convenience, for example, 50 terabytes per month. Bandwidth is the maximum speed at which servers are able to transfer and receive traffic per second. Server bandwidth is measured in megabits per second or gigabits per second. For a dedicated server, the bandwidth can be up to 10 Gbps. The terms unmetered traffic and unmetered bandwidth are often confused. For example, if the server tariff description says “hosting with bandwidth of 100 TB per month”, the fact of measuring per month itself indicates that it is about traffic, not bandwidth.


In descriptions of hosting tariffs for dedicated servers, some providers specify “unlimited traffic”, explaining that the client can use the full bandwidth of the port, and the amount of traffic received and transferred per month is not limited by the contractual agreement. In reality, the amount of traffic your server can receive and transfer per month always depends on the allocated bandwidth restrictions and the number of days in a calendar month. More often than not, dedicated servers simply do not utilize the full potential of a port, so ISPs sometimes use such wording to make their services more attractive. If an offer states “unlimited server bandwidth”, it does not mean that the offer is better than others. It is simply advertising a dedicated channel with all resources at the client’s disposal.


The speed of connection of a dedicated server directly depends on the tariff you select. CloudKleyer offers all its clients free unmetered Internet with channel width up to 100 Mbps.
